Child / Teen Clients

Therapy with younger children (3+): I provide a safe, nurturing space for children to develop skills for identifying, expressing, and managing big emotions.  When working with younger children, parents play a very important role. Often, a combination of family therapy sessions with and without child is recommended, to provide space for parents to learn and practice skills and strategies to use with their young child.

Therapy with older children and teens: With these clients, I often find the focus to be on helping them build self-esteem, develop frustration tolerance skills, effective communication skills, sharpen decision-making skills, and process stressors. Parents play an important role in their older child and teen’s lives; I encourage parents to model the skills, strategies, and traits they wish to see in their child or teen.  I often encourage family sessions, either with or without client present, to help parents learn how to better help their child.

Parent-only therapy: Parenting can be both the greatest and the most challenging experience; I love helping parents navigate this to feel more competent and capable of supporting and caring for their unique child while also helping them grow into healthy and independent young people.

Please note that while I provide therapy services to children and families with a wide variety of needs, I do not provide parent mediation services and do not take part in the creation of parenting plans. I do not make or inform custody arrangements.

Adult Clients

Individual Therapy: I tailor individual therapy to meet the needs of each individual client. Goals for therapy may include helping clients improve decision-making skills, cope effectively with anxiety, work through relationship challenges, or deal with life transitions or other issues. Clients learn to use their strengths more effectively, learn how to tolerate and become less limited by their weaknesses, and also learn how to deal with internal conflict. I often work with people who have life transition issues, family issues or parenting challenges that exacerbate their struggles with anxiety or depression. At times we may choose to incorporate other family members into sessions, to practice communication or other skills learned during therapy or to help family members better understand how to support the client.

Groups

Standard Group Therapy: Groups consist of individuals with similar challenges/struggles and similar goals. Examples of a standard group may be: Teen Social Skills Group; Women’s Anxiety Group; Empty Nest Group - Finding New Meaning in this New Phase of Life

Multi-Family Group Therapy: Group consists of parents/guardians/family members of clients, who have similar challenges and similar goals. Examples of a multi-family group may be: Parenting Your ADHD Child; Supporting and Encouraging your Trans+ Child; Parenting the Strong Willed Child

Please note that I do not provide crisis services. My practice will be a great fit for many individuals, but it is not for those who are in crisis or teetering on the edge of crisis, as I am not able to provide 24 hour coverage or urgent crisis response. If you’re not sure if I am the right fit for you or not based on this, please discuss with me during our consultation phone call, and I can help you make that determination.
At intake I do provide a list of crisis resources to all new clients so that if a crisis does occur, you have resources to access; crisis resources can also be found on the
